Choosing Your Auto Body Kit
Posted by admin in Choosing Your Auto Body Kit on
Choosing a body kit is probably the most fun part of the whole process, a brief look at the actual finished product. There are so many kits to choose from, and you can mix and match to your heart’s content. What is the secret to choosing the right body kit?
If you do not know what kind of kit you want, start by looking at the website several major manufacturers. The most important thing is to get an overview of the existing kit in the car. To do this, do a search on Google or other search engine for images. For example, try searching for a body kit on your car applications. Almost every time you will find detailed pictures of someone’s personal car on their web pages. Now you’ll know how it will look.
Keep repeating the above steps until you find what you want. If you try to mix and match then this will be more difficult, you’ll probably have to use a little imagination to see every part at different cars.
Once you choose a body kit, it is time to decide who to buy from. There are many companies out there offering kits, and quality will vary as much as price. There are also many materials to choose from as well. Decide on what type of material you want your kit to be built from. There are generally two types of materials used in fabricating kits – fiberglass and urethane. Fiberglass is generally fits better and can be repaired if you ever damage a piece, but more brittle than urethane. Fiberglass has a better finish than urethane; paint will usually look better on the fiberglass. Urethane is much more resistant to impact because of the flexibility it soft, but can not be easily repaired after it was broken. Choose materials that best suit how you want to see and do.
If the fit of the body kit is less than perfect you will pay much more in the cost of installation or within the time if you try to do it yourself. There will be a mold and a lot of hassle if the kit is not suitable. For that reason I suggest spending a little more on the kit the first time and get one that will work. When dealing with a company’s brand name you know your order will get to you as soon as possible. If you go with a lesser known company you may end up waiting weeks or even months for a kit to get to you.
Remember – you get what you pay for. There is a high quality US-made fiberglass resin and there are cheap, brittle fiberglass. Decide how much you are willing to invest, finding the right style, right materials, and the right installer, and you’ll end up with a great looking car.
